About the workshop: The art of market-making

Are you eager to challenge yourself and find out if you have what it takes to become a Trader or Researcher?

The art of market-making involves a careful balance of mathematical theory, intuition, practical implementations and speed. In the workshop we will touch upon all these aspects and showcase the importance of them in the financial world. We will play a simple game that explains our core business and gives a glimpse of challenges that we face. This will give you an insight to how mathematics and analytical skills are practically applied in a trading firm. On route, we will explain how trading, research and technology within Optiver use these skills in the everyday work and highlight the importance of the collaboration between these departments for the company's success.

Don't miss the chance to meet us in person and to find out more about our Graduate positions, internships and the recruitment processes.

About Rick Brandt and Optiver

Over thirty years ago, Optiver started business as a single trader on the floor of Amsterdam's European Options Exchange. Today, we are a leading global electronic market maker, focused on pricing, execution and risk management. We provide liquidity to financial markets using our own capital, at our own risk, trading a wide range of products: from listed derivatives, cash equities, ETFs and bonds to foreign exchange. Our independence allows us to objectively improve the markets and provide efficiencies for market participants.

Rick Brandt is a researcher at Optiver. He has a background in Mathematics and studied at the TU Delft and University of Amsterdam. After his studies Rick joined Optiver, and has been working here for about two and a half years.

"I love working at Optiver, because of the result driven mentality yet informal atmosphere. Doing research here provides me with all kinds of mathematical problems, although in a non-academic setting. To me that is the perfect combination; I am modeling, programming and solving puzzles and problems on a daily basis."

With 1000 Optiverians globally in Amsterdam, Chicago, Shanghai and Sydney our diverse team is united by our mission to improve the market.
